Re-barrel a 700 Rem 7mm Mag

I would like to never get beaten up again....so I am going to re-barrel to a std caliber. I will probably buy a PT&G bolt. What long action caliber??? 280Rem? Is there a 6.5-06? I already have a 30-06, 308, 223 , 22 Hornet. Looking for high BC but not high recoil.

6.5 sounds like what your looking for. I run a X47L and a LBC AR/Grendel and love the low recoil and BC. Many have praised the X55 and that would fit your LA well throated long. Don't know about recoil on the '06 but has to be greater then the previous mentioned. The 6.5 Remington Magnum is another thought then you wouldn't have to swap bolts. Don't know about brass availability but can't see why you couldn't reform Norma stuff. The 6.5 RSAUM wildcat would reduce your recoil also but barrel life would be questionable.

6.5-06 has mild recoil. has good bullets available. you can form from Lapua 30-06, Winchester 270 or 25-06. I'm going to build a new one soon. I shot my first one in the NRA high power competition during the mid to late eighties. I did win a silver medal at the state high power match with it. You can get similar results with the 6.5-284. The 6.5 Rem Mag has too many problems with brass and is no better than the 06 or 6.5-284. I was going to build one but it is a waste of time. All should be built on long actions unless you want a single shot.

Is this for a hunting rifle? I feel that the 6.5-06 kills antelope quicker than my 25-06. Small sample, three with the 25 and four with the 6.5.
