RCBS 10-10 accuracy technique

I have a 10-10.
I was setting it for 30 grains. I had been working my way up, so I had the slider on 20 grains and the wheel dialed up to 10.

My question is, Is there a preferred way of getting 30? (or any other even 10 weight) Is 20+10 as good as or better than 30+0? Which method makes the most of the scales capabilities?

I didn't notice any difference on mine using check weights. I only tried it a couple times though so it might change as you go up or down the beam.

Get a 1500 and pitch the beam Just my two cents. Tommy Mc

Make yourself a weight that weighs exactly 30 grains based on the position of the main poise, and then set your scale the other way and see what you get. I am surprised that you seem to not have done that. Before we had the internet to go to, there was "Figure it out." Let us know what your results are. If I had a scale with a difference I would see if I could do some tuning to eliminate it.

Both main poise and barrel/micro poise should be equal although the threaded barrel poise can get some backlash so I tend to use the main poise and thread the barrel /micro poise the lesser amount, for example if my target weight is 29.7 I set the main at 30 and rotate the micro backwards .3

Probably won't make a difference with your 10-10. That's a good scale.

But general rule-of-thumb with measuring instruments is you'll often have better/more accurate results in the middle of the scale, than out at the edge. Absent other information, I'd go with the 20/10 setting.
