Range to host benchrest / F-class

Manatee hosts Benchrest events and Port Malabar hosts F-Class. Wish they would put pits in at Manatee. On their 1000 yard range they have more then twenty shooting positions at that distance, and about that many more for out to 600 yards. Nice clean bathroom area, camping, cowboy range,300 yard benchrest range, fully auto range, skeet range, and an archery range. But NO TARGET PITS.

Hi Don, pits make things work alot smoother. If you ever get elected 'master target changer' for life, you would see the need. Pits also keep the match moving right along also.

The manatee range in fl. has a 300 yd f-class match every 2nd sunday starting in Nov. they are N.R.A. sanctioned. 45 rds. for score with 5 sighters shoot and paste. hope to see you in nov. Tom P. match dirctor

tallgun, thanks for the invite. I have heard that Manatee has made alot of range improvements thru the last couple of years. How many shooting stations are on the 300yd range? And better yet, how many on the 1K side? If we build a comparable range, we can shoot back and forth between ranges.;);)

There are a few shooters from my area that already shoot with you.

Straightpipes,I shot there last Sunday I was on bench 12 which is about in the middle of the 1000 yard range. You can probably shoot the first twenty five or so benches at 1000 yards.I took about ten pictures of the range for Gene because I told him what you had in the works. He said he would send me some copies for you. They are doing alot of work at that range. They put in 2 school portables for gun classes and other needs.Pouring concrete and expanding everywhere, even putting in an air rifle range for juniors. The next time I see you I'll tell you more.I'm gonna try to make the tactical shoot next weekend.

Straightpipes, At the range I shoot at now, we have a 100yds wide aprox by 25 ft talldirt berm just behind the 300yd line. We are able to shoot out to 300. We have concrete poured at the 100,200 for our backboards which we put up and take up at the end of every match. One berm works for us. The club also puts on 1 major match every year. It draws a few shooters..We have 22 benches covered and a reload and cleaning shed and bragging wall under one roof looks like a 4/12 truss aprox 30 ft wide by 30ft long and a storage room for the target backers and other range needs. Let me know if you need pics, I'll drive up and get some for you... Looking froward to shooting with you.. Thanks again ;D

I have been reading the posts on the range suggestions . Here is what I know from a shooter that has traveled to several different IBS 600yd.shoots . I have shot where they have pits I have been asked to pull pit duty in order to run the shoot .
I have shot with no pits and you sight in on a bank filled with claybirds. I have shot in pouring down rain ,snow ,sleet ,bitter cold. On benches that where portable and fixed made of steel frame with wood tops some were anchored some where not some all concrete .They were on grass ,stone , concrete and in some cases mud . As someone once said" build it and he will come" .Well from what I see 600yd. IBS don't know about the other orgs. or disiplines .We shoot all winter long in Bridgeville De. at the Nov. shoot I believe well over 50 shooter signed up to shoot . Build a range and you will get shooters. Oh did I mention no matter how plain or fancy the range it had 600yd. shooters .We get to shoot 4 targets no relay winners 5 shots per target 20 shots shots total plus sighters . .

build it and i will come.
i like close range but do shoot 600y some. i am a long way off to shoot regularly but i will shoot when i can. headed to manatee next mo. it would be nice to stop there to shoot before going on down to manatee. a couple matches together could draw a crowd like lakeland used to have.
