Range Fun 6.5x47

Made it out to the ranch yesterday morning. Had a 5mph breeze from my right. I got a first round hit at 903 yards and then adjusted for the next five. I missed a slight increase in wind on my last shot or I would have fired my best group to date. I know it's not as impressive as most of what you guys do, but for me and my modest rifle, I will take it. This was 130 Berger, CCI 450 and 40.8 H4350 seated to lands.

Looks ok to me.I wish I had a long range like that to do some long range shooting.

looks like a solid 2/3 rds MOA to me......... we will just agree to cover the the flyer with a quarter for scale

with my very limited reading comprehension I take it that the low shot was the first round hit prior to making an adjustment for the next 5. that's a damn fine group and I don't see that the wind got you at all. nice and round.

That is correct. Very first shot of the day out of a clean bore, I hit low on the target and adjusted for elevation and fired 5 more. I have learned a ton from you guys. My shooting and reloading techniques have gotten much better since reading this site. I don't go the extremes like weighing bullets and brass because I am just banging steel. For what I do if I can hold around MOA at anything over 600-700, I am a happy camper.

Hitting it with the first round impresses me...

Exactly. A first round hit on a target that size at 900+ yards is no easy task for rifle or shooter. Very good shooting :)

"130 Berger, CCI 450 and 40.8 H4350 seated to lands". I've been shooting that exact load in one of my 6.5x47's. Best i've done is 5" @ 1k. I was a happy camper that day.

GSSP, have you tried that same load with a standard primer? Just curious because some people have great luck. I have tried Varget but couldn't get it to shoot with the 130's. I didn't chase the depths a bunch because the H4350 shot well from the beginning. I do have great results with Varget and the 123 A-Max. I just haven't fired that round over 300 to see how well it would do.

JP,

I've done some primer testing. I have two 6.5x47's where I shoot the 130 VLD. One like H4350 and CCI 450. The other likes Varget and either the CCI 400 or CCI BR. Go figure.

With these rifle/calibers, I start at 600 using an Audette ladder increasing in .2 gr increments; touching the lands. Once I find an accuracy node, I load up 3 of each and shoot a group/s, depending upon how many charges fit within the node. I then load up 3 more of each, seated 10 thou in the lands and 10 thou out of the lands. This without even using a chronograph. At this point I have the powder charge and seating depth. I then move into 100 to get a solid 100 yd zero and some chrono results. Did all this just this past Saturday with the new 140 Hybrid, H4350 and CCI 450. Ended up with a .269 moa at 607 yds. Moved into 100 and shot three 5-shot groups ranging from .267 to .44 moa with an ES of 14 and SD of 4 for 15 rounds. Forty six rounds total and I have a killer load.
