6.5x47 Load Adjustment

I got busy and never had time to really tweak my loads like I wanted. I was getting nice accuracy with the 123 A-Max and Varget, but my velocities weren't consistent. I then switched over to Berger 130's and H4350. Velocities tightened up but nothing I would consider stellar accuracy at 100 yards. I did go out the other day and fire some very nice groups for me at 575 yards. Three shot groups were averaging 2.5". I was shooting 40.6 H4350, CCI 450, seated into the lands .005. I would like to get A-Max to work due to its cost, but how much am I giving up down range. Any suggestions for tweaks?

Pull those bergers back out and jam em about .015 in to the lands and you should find a node around 37.5gr with Reloder 15... Of course work up to it. But since you have VarGet on hand that should work also and the burn rates are pretty similar, but still work up. Your case prep must be pretty good if your getting 2 1/2" groups at almost 600 yards. I've herd of people getting good results with h4350 so why not stick with that?? I myself have always had good luck with Reloder 15 and just stuck with it and never had a problem with any temp sensitivity issues.

Tweak away

I could certainly stick with the H4350. I really wanted the Varget to work since I already use it on a few other rifles. I will go back and test the Berger's .015 into the lands with Varget. I don't think I ever went that long. I was also hoping the 123's would be a great performer to save a little expense.

I am not sure what kind of steel these things are, but even at 575 yards the little 6.5X47 was giving it a pretty good dent. I have since purchased some AR 500 plates. Without the paint you wouldn't know something hit it.

Try cci 400. Or a non magnum primer. I have not shot my 6.5 yet , but my 308's and 223's always seem dislike ( velocity wise ) varget , 4895 , extruded powders and magnum primers , cci 34 & 41's. It has been my experience that magnum primers do better with ball powders.

as mentioned above id b trying a bit more jam .010-.015 and a cci br4 non magnum primer. i found both my guns really like that 40.5 of 4350 load.

Tried the Berger seating test this morning and my rifle seemed to find a nice little node at .020 off the lands. I was hoping I could find something off the lands. Thanks again for the help.
