Range Closures Due to Fire Danger

Our range went into lockdown on 7/24 due to fire danger. Here we are at 8/17/24 and still no opening in sight, until it rains hard enough to wet everything down really well we will stay this way. I'm starting to have some pretty bad withdraws not being able to get my range time in every few days.

So far I have changed out float tubes on all the ar15's that didn't need changing, changed out the grips on the .38 bodyguard that were fine to start with and taken apart and cleaned at least six rifles and handguns that were clean to begin with.

Please, please let it RAIN!

My range was closed due to flooding(on a small river) for several weeks. Shot a couple times since, how the river is rising again. Could be a source for frogs(fish bait) if the frog hatch grows up.

Come on down and stay with me, you can clean my guns while I mow the grass. It rains every day here. The new range is built so we get a breeze with roofs at different levels and a gap so the air can circulate. That makes it so even a slight rain soaks all the shooters and all your gear. I mowed 4 days ago, and it could use it again. Mornings are usually rain free but it's so hot you can't breathe.

Buy your self a quality Springer air rifle, stay home. Have fun. .03 per shot, no cleaning, no reloading. It will make you a better shooter. Only downside is the trigger will spoil you compared to any AR trigger. Oh, very little noise.

We had a fire at one of my ranges years ago that was determined to be from tracers being fired. Our back stop is tires and it was a very difficult fire to control. Tracers are banned from the range, but they never caught the offender.

One of my ranges was shut down during COVID in 2020. Definitely felt the withdrawal but it's a time you can use to do some dry firing to stay in shooting shape.

The club I belong to had to close the range due to increased fire danger as directed by the county. The county Sheriff and local Police Dept use the range for training and practice. The county was able to define an exemption to use the range since the backstops are bare - no vegetation. So we are back to using it carefully. The club already has rules in place to not use tracer, incendiary ammunition or exploding targets.

About November you'll be wondering will it ever stop, or at least stop raining and snow.

We got a T-storm warning for later today, they don't usually get so excited on the news. Thinking maybe it's going to be more than the normal nothing to write home about stuff.

Hey Brett, I was over on your side of the hill yesterday, and you better believe I used the wipers. Drove 700 miles on that freakin interstate of yours, and the "goin home" phase was mui trucks with what I consider buckets of rain. Probably not too bad for you guys.

I've driven a truck of one kind or another for prolly a million miles, but put me in a little car on the interstate, and I suck. jd

Did you guys get any of it?
Need to run down and check river level, we might've got a batch of fish outta the deal.
The garden is still wet
