Raising a lathe height

My Acer lathe is about 8 inches shorter to the center line to my other lathes (at least 6 inches).

Other than making crazy long machinery mounts is there another clever option to raise it up that much?

A friend made spacers that fit the bolt patterns where the lathe bed mounts to its base. Plate on top, plate on the bottom, short pieces of big square tube between. Helps his back a lot. He has a mill so getting things parallel and doing a good job on the holes was not a problem. You could fabricate boxes to take the place of the tube sections. Looks very tidy.

I got some 4 inch round stock and cut 2.5 inch tall "pucks" that would fit the feet of my lathe. Waiting for a time when I'm willing to re-level/align before I install them.

On the machinist forums I've seen some guys weld up frames for the lathe to sit on top of... but then you're relocating the e-stop pedal, etc etc.

W beams or big square tubing with plate on the top & bottom. I can get you tube if needed. You will have to pay the freight.

It looks like you have 6 leveling screws.

i could saw some 5 inch diameter x what ever length you need. They will be heavy, the shipping would be pretty high.

I can give them to you if you take care of all the shipping.

Wow!! Thank you so much!

Are these round steel?

This is exactly what I did. I have an Acer Dynamic 1440G. 3-1/2" dia 304. Cut a radius feature in the center with a 3/4" ball end mill and made new levelling bolts with a radius on end to match. The middle pucks needed to be a bit shorter than the 4 end ones.

Another option is a large enough piece of pipe with a piece of flat stock welded on one or both sides. Be somewhat lighter.
