Rail Gun

I am a relatively new to shooting,, did some hunting years ago) . I am a retired teacher who took up machining as a retirement hobby, Have a BP Mill and a 10 Southbend. Saw my 1st rail gun and fell in love w/ the idea. I don't have big bucks to spend on a custom made unit. Found a action, trigger and barrel from Montana Rifle Barrels just under $1000.I will have to stretch the budget a bit but, I want to see if I can have it chamber for a Remington 6mm br. Will build a rail unit but don't have any plans. They look simple enough to make, granted it won't compete w/ the real custom builders) but for me its a start. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
In advance Thanks
Vinnie

Go to benchrest.com Ask your question in the benchrest section. The benchrest shoot know the most about these.

Here is Mike Bryant's site where he has pics of a bunch of very creative rails... http://www.bryantcustom.com/galleries/railguns.htm
There are some plans floating around out there but the great thing about a rail is you can do most anything you want when making them, so why use conventional plans? Use your imagination! I hope to one day be able to make my own also. As of now I use an older Don Powell rail and I'm very happy with it. I will try to attach a couple of pics of homemade rails. The yellow one is Butch Fisher's, and the red one is Tom Dixon's. Rail guns are so much fun!

R.Graham:
I understand most of what you sent me and the other pics which were great. What I don't know is the connection between the gum plate and the base plate. I don't know if it is possible to seperate the upper plate and the lower base plate to see the the windage controls and how they work.
Thanks

I don't know where you live but there are bound to be some Unlimited BR matches close by, somewhere, sometime. Go to one and look at all the machines. You'll be surprised at some of the innovations. Ask questions. Most of those guys are so proud of their creations that you'll have a hard time getting them to shut up.

iccirvr, These were just photos of rails at one of our shoots so I don't have any photos of them separated. I see you have an email address listed so I will try to take some pics of my Powells adjustments and send them to you. It's pretty simple really.

McCluskey Precision Rifles sells plans for building your own rail for 175.00.

iccirvr, I have the rail photos but can see no way to send them to you through this board. If you want to send me an email I will try to attach them to the reply. Rick
