Radway Green 7.62

An old LR shooter I know is cleaning out his garage and I'm trying to help coordinate the distribution of his stuff to current shooters in a way that is fair to everyone. I have not seen his collection (that's tomorrow) but one thing he mentioned is a case (abt 1500) of Radway Green 7.62 ammo. Seems he was taking apart the RG 7.62 then refilling the cases with Varget and topping it with a Sierra MatchKing for LR shooting.

Essentially I was wondering if this is still a common practice and if the RG 7.62 has any particular value?

Radway green is good ammo for the fn fal.The stuff is hot to begin with but they are real healthy.Guys like me love it but pulling it down and reloading it seems very labor intensive. You would be better selling it and buying good components.

Sort of my thoughts too. The theory he explained to me is that the Berdan primer with the tiny flash holes is hotter and more consistent than any Boxer primed case. This sort of goes along with stuff I've read elsewhere. I don't intend to buy it and do as he had planned. My real question was just to advise the owner what sort of price to put on it.

A week and a half ago, a local was cleaning out his ammo closet and found a case of 750 in stripper clips and in bandoliers. They had 1993 Headstamps. He sold them to me for $450.00 cash. Don't know if that helps.

Hoot

RG is good stuff, but because it is berdan primed, it's value has always been lower than lake city loaded ammo. 1500 rounds would go for just over $800 in the current market - 5 months ago, $1,000, no problem. October of last year I saw battle packs or RG going for $175/(420 rounds).
I am with bearman on this, for $800+ you can get 100 pieces of Lapua brass, 6 lbs of powder, a brick of primers, and nearly 1k great bullets. The bullets loaded in my RG I have are 155 grain fmj-bt I think, and are great under 300 yards, but really do nothing for mid range shooting.
