R15 in .308

its a great powder for the 308 in many bullet weights.just work up a load for the bullet of choice and go shooting.just remember to be safe with the loads.always look for a pressure sign.the one thing that most will say is that Varget is a better powder when it come to temps.other than that try it to see what you think about it.

I've had good experience with both in competition, among other powders......it just depends on what the combo of barrel, case, bullet...etc....like to make it the most accurate.

To me it's Varget first R-15 second, not sure why as they are both get the job done, quess I had to pick one.

I've never shot RL-15,mainly because 4064 and Varget work so well.It is considered by many a "go to" powder for the 308.Like the others posted, start low and work up and you will be fine.I plan to try it someday! Lightman

I've shot both powders in my Rem .308. What they say about RL15 being temp sensitive is true. For me RL15 would go to pot on cold days, whereas the Varget just keeps shooting normally. I don't feel like "chasing the load around" so I chose Varget and I'm going to stick with it. Same thing for my 6BR. Didn't seem to be any noticeable accuracy difference between the two powders. Sometimes simple is best.

I have chronographed loads from both these powers in the same gun with the same components, and to honest there is not much between them but.

i found varget just pips RL-15 in the speed argument on a gr by gr aggregate & accuracy as well in my experience.

For target work or just punching paper i like 42.6 to 44.5 gr window when using Varget, with a 168 or 175 gr VLD,
My current load is 43 grs of Varget a 175 gr berger VLD, Fed 210 GMM primer & lap cases.
I personally like IMR 4064 over RL 15, but they are all great powers in the 308 W. You would be assured to find a load the has good speed and accuracy with any of these powers.
