Quickloads 95% Burn rate preferred amount in inches

6BRA

Gold $$ Contributor
On 6BR and all variants, is there a relationship at the 95 mark? Some powders H4895 are 9 to 10 inches...vs say H4350 at about 17 inches. Obviously pressure is directly related. Any preferred Marks to hit in inches? Any relationship to throat wear? Accuracy
Thanks!

Similarity...but nothing conclusive

100% burn rate at 80% of barrel length. Say 28" barrel, let us find 100% burn at 23" in 6 BR shooting a typical bullet using say Varget

Energy and Velocity continue to climb at very reduced amounts at that point, but pressures continue to decline long before burn out, and gradually continue to drop. From what the tables show.

I know from what Ive seen in my barrels up to as fast as 1-10 twist, shooting 80 grains and under, with powder burn rates from 322 thru 4895, I like 22.5to 23" max.

If shooting faster twist rates up to 1-8, (as fast as I use) shooting Varget to H4350 Burn rates, and 90 to 108 grain bullets, 26" is my prefered Max.

I've found very little gain past that, and I believe the forgiveness from the bench you loose more the longer you go in those situations. Meaning the more bench edicate is exposed and the less performance is gained. I call it my sweet spots!

I see My mistake. Thanks for the clarification.

The guys that shoot 30” barrels in FTR, are they trying to get the very last bit of velocity and energy at 1,000 yards ?

Not sure, but the style shooting I do, accuracy is always top priority, speed is a by product for me, if it weren't I would move on to a BRA, or Dasher, then if energy is a concern, I would change caliber.

But as you see by the drop in fps per inch, your pretty much chasing your tail at that point. In real life your close to that point where your not gaining, your rolling the dice that any minute gain is actually costing you. For my purpose that is. For others its just a matter of what you want to give up, and what your main priority is.

I focus instead on muzzle pressure.
I run QL what-ifs for powder loads that gives me max MV (for my bullet & barrel length), at SAAMI max pressure, and 8Kpsi or less muzzle pressure, while at 100% load density.

103% 107% drop tube and compress?

H4350 AND H4895...95 PERCENT MARK HUGE DIFFERENCE. THROAT WEAR...AND CAN YOU GET THAT POWDER IN THERE?
