Has anyone tryed the 115 sierra's in the dasher or any of the improved br case and what kind of speed did you get?

Paul - One of my friends has just started load development in his new Quadlite/Krieger 28" 8-twist chambered for the 6BR Imp. Ubl,near identical to the Dasher, but with a .274" neck). It looks like his barrel is going to give around 2950fps with N550 & moly'd Tubb 115s with reasonable pressure.

QuickLoad shows 62Kpsi.

My load in a standard 6BR is 31.5 gr of Varget at 2970 fps using naked 107 Sierras in a 30 inch tube. Can you run your program to see if i can get 2850 fps running similar pressure with the 115's? Will it run 2950-3000 fps if it runs similar pressure in a 6 Dasher?
I am wanting to assemble a gun capable of 3000 fps with a very long neck and 6BR efficiency to shoot the new 115's.I don't want to burn more than 34-36 grains of powder if possible and would like to keep a 30 inch maximum on the barrel if possible.

I have not yet tried the 115's in my Dasher. I will some day
but don't have any bullets yet.
I get 3000 to 3125 fps from 105's and 107's with the use of Varget; N-140; & RL-15 from 1500'-elevation/54-degrees.
I would estimate 2950 to 2975 would be the velocities seen from my Dasher,28" Shilen/8-twist) with the 115's.

If i sent you some 115's would you be willing to run 5 shots down your tube to get a chrony reading? Also what is the neck length on your Dasher?

I have to say that I've given up on a calibrated Varget powder file. Too many contradictive loads posted. But adjusting best as I can for your load/results, I'll give it a whirl.
For a std BR case, formed brass, 42grH2o, your barrel, 115gr Sierra, bullet shank seated .3", lightly into the lands, I get a matched pressure,60.5Kpsi)load as follows:
32.4gr,91.6% fill) N550 giving 2845fps
For a Dasher/115 combo, your barrel, same seating, 44grH20 + 5% efficiency, matched pressure:
37gr,99% fill) N560 giving 2920fps
Another is 33.4gr,94.6% fill) IMR4350 giving 2900fps
I haven't run external ballistic curves on this, but there aren't alot of options for the 115gr from this case. Any real gains seem beyond it's capacity.
There is a similar combo,by scale) which also hits such a barrier. The 140smk/6.5wssm. It just cannot quite touch the big boys, given it's capacity and setting reasonable pressure limits. Nothing wrong with that. Afterall, we're reaching for a pretty high bar.
Maybe someone could post they're combination and results. The more info, the better.

Sorry for the delayed response. Busy hunting. Hardly home long enoth to even sleep...hehe
Yes, I would do those tests.
I will Reply Email you my address & phone.

I predict I will see the fallowing velcities:
Varget = 2930 to 2950f/s
N-140 = 2950 to 2975f/s
RL-15 = +2975f/s

I predict case failure or eventual injury, even at low temps, if you push a 115gr that hard with powders that are so obviously too fast.

The lower the temp, the lower the velocities, the less the pressure!
If I would get signs of pressure, I would go to RL-19 and N-150. But I moved 107's 3050 to 3125f/s with out troubles. This is where I base my predicitions from. Pressure signs and brass problems came from above these velocities.
Load density acheived from the powders that I use, give better velocities with less pressure then "slower" burning powders with less density. It is my findings if you are not smoking the necks, you are wasting good speed and accuracy. But only the necks and not much on the shoulders. Smoke the shoulders much, and brass life will go to hell and pressure is getting too high.
I have used the same 40 Lapua brass for a total of 469 rounds fired. That is a brass cycle average = 11.7 times fired and they have only streched .002 to .003".
I base my own SAMMI pressure specs on my brass. After all, SAMMI pressures are areas of Warning. I have several loads that would no doubt go past, but I would not consider them "Hot" in my application and reloading practices. It is my findings that long thick barrels like being on the edge and over SAMMI. Neck tension is a key here, I feel!
My Dasher's chamber forms my Lapua brass to hold 40.7gr capacity of H2O. It is a .271 neck with a .225" Throat. The necks are turned to .2685" and I use .263 Bushings in my dies.
On a note to the throat: I also predict that as the barrels throat leade advances, it will like the 115's even more!!

Paul- I have been shooting the mollied 115s out of a 6br improved with Viht 550 at 2950fps with very good results at 600yds. I have a 28" Krieger 1x8 twist barrel. This load does not seem to show excessive pressure, there are no signs of ejector marks, the load does not crater primers, no sticky bolt lift. I have also tried Varget and rl-15 but both powders seemed to be a little too fast for the 115s. I would start to see excessive pressure signs when the velocity would reach over 2850fps with Varget.
Hope this helps,
