Quick Load users - need some help with 243win running 115's

Hello, I am in need of assistance from some kind person, I have a new rifle id like to shoot but am lacking some solid starting points for loading, if anyone has access to Quick load and would like to do me a favor it would be much appreciated.

The info I have is

243 win
Lapua Brass
115 Berger VLD’s or 115 DTACS
30” bbl 7.75 twist
COAL is 2.87” with the DTAC (that’s just touching the lands)

I would love to know the start load/max load/max velocity and fill ratio for a few powders, specifically H4831SC, RE22,H1000,RE19. Retumbo, RE25

Any other recommendations for this new rifle would be more than welcome as well, those are just the powders I buy in 8lbers so it would be nice if one of them worked out, also any recommendations for where to seat the Bergers or DTACS would be great, I’ve shot a ton of 105-108’s but never the 115s so its all new to me.

Thank you so much, William R of MN

William,

I shoot the 115 DTAC in my 243SLR which is a 243 with a 30 degree shoulder. Load data should be pretty similar.

My best luck has come with H4831sc. Start at 42.5 gr and work up with your rifle. I use Rem and Win brass and Wolf primers. Barrel on this rifle is 30 inches also. Gave VV165 a try and it turned in good velocity and groups at 600 but not as good as the H4831sc loads.

I jam the rifling with the bullet +.030". That way I don't have to chase the throat as it wears. If you bbl is new, I would suggest shooting no more than 25 shots and have it salt bath nitrided. 243s are known to wear a throat pretty fast. The hardening process preserves the throat and gives you a longer bbl life.

Have not tried H1000 but look under posts for the 6CM, another 243 variant, and you will see some loads for this powder as well.

Bob

Here you go, these are starting loads for different types of slow powders.
If you plan on jamming bullets, start lower!

Thanks for all the helps guys, especially to the good sir that will remain unnamed for sending the full blown work ups.

I plan on sending this new bbl out for SBN but was going to do so after some initial firings to see how it shoots. I had planned on 60 rds, already have 50 down to tube, is that too many? I thought it was pretty safe to send it out as long as you were under 100rds but maybe I got some bad info.

I did a few initial tests with the DTACS and its seems to be a solid shooter but I’m at a much lower node that I want to end up at, both H1000 & RL22 shot very well @ 2750, single digit SD’s, 5 shots thru 1 hole, groups and SD’s fell off around 2800, hopefully something pans out up in the 2950-3050 range.

Thanks again for the help.
