Quick load help please.

Could I talk someone with quickload to do me a favor please?
.243 using Hodgdon H4350 24 inch barrel 88 Berger with a BC of .388

Thanks

It's not really that easy. H2O capacity of one of your fired cases must be provided. And, almost as important, chrono data of 2 different charge weight loads from the exact same lot of powder you plan to use is also necessary, due to lot-to-lot variances in burn rate. This can be significant. I have a lot of H4350 that is 4% slower, and a lot of Varget that is 7% faster than the defaults contained in QL.

Shy of having this data to input into QL, the program can be used only for theoretical comparisons.

Mike

edit: COAL is necessary data, also.

So when I email Berger bullets and ask for load data they always send me load data and it say generated by quick load?
How do they do it? It did not include the h4350 and Walt is away till jun.

Assuming your cases have a 54 grain H2O capacity, here's what QuickLoad would suggest:
With a C.O.A.L. of 2.710
45 Grains of H4350,max load) with non moly bullets: 3242FPS
46 GRAINS of H4350,max load)with moly bullets: 3291FPS
44 grains should be a good starting load in all cases.
But remember you cannot rely only on a computer software, you will have to shoot that stuff!

Thank you 2644! I have 54.8 H20 and C.O.A.L is 2.903
but You gave me a Idea of where I want to be,I Think)

A friend and I have identical 6mm Rems, both with equally new Krieger barrels chambered by the same smith with the same reamer. Same cases, same primers. My h2o capacity is only .4 grains more than his. We both seat to book COAL in these rifles. Borescope inspection indicates pretty much the same degree of throat wear.

I'd worked up a load with 75 grain VMaxes over H4350 that clock 3670 fps MV and deliver superb accuracy from my rifle. I told him what my load was, and advised him to work up to it.

He skipped the "working up to it" part, and his first shot clocked right at 3900 fps. So did his second....luckily, he had the good sense to quit at that point.

It turned out that to achieve the same velocity I was getting, which, BTW, turned out to be extremely accurate in his rifle, also), he had to drop the charge weight a full three grains.

This was with as close to "twin" rifles as one can get. The only obvious difference was the difference between our lots of powder.

That's why I do the chrono readings with 2 distinctly different charge weights when I get a new lot of powder. It "calibrates" the burn rate in QL. Nowadays, when I find a load I like and plan on sticking with, I buy 8lb jugs of powder to keep a consistent burn rate.
