Quick Fix

I've got a set of RCBS 22/250 FL Sizer Dies that would not let me bump the should back a tat as I've fired these Win cases several times such that the bolt was beginning to be a 'hard close'! Took the shell holder over to my belt sander and in 3 minutes I reduced the upper surface thickness by .015" and now.....problem solved!! ;D :D

RCBS sells a set of Shell Holders that are marked in .002 increments under size just for the reason you made your own for. It makes it quick and easy to set them for one specific rifle, and then keep notes on which shell holder to use for which rifle. They don't cost much either.

Yep! I've got a set of + holders for some larger calibers but no - for the mini calibers! ;D ;)

Wasn't aware RCBS offered these. I do know that Redding does. FWIW, they only work when you want MORE "heasdspace", not less. Proper way to use them is to start with the "largest + size", screw the die down tight against it (cam over too if you want to make sure the die touches while sizing) and check how the case chambers. If difficult or not at all, work down in the + sizes until the bolt just closes the way you want it to.

Mulhern, Just curious, why would you reduce the top of the S/H by .015" when .001" or .002" might be sufficient particularly if setting the Die to "cam over" for bump consistency. Maybe I'm missing something ???

Redding sells "plus" shellholders ("Competition Shellholder Set") but those will not help when the standard shellholder, even cammed over upon, will not set back the shoulder sufficiently.

I suspect any RCBS non-standard set (to which I can find no actual reference) are also "plus" not "minus".

Surface grinding the face/bottom of the die would be the sensible option.

Bastardizing a shell holder will cause issues in years to come!

Redding shell holders -SUCK-even the Competition shell holders.

Mic a few of the critical dimensions & see for yourself.
