Questions on Horandy Hydraulic forming die?

1# Can you neck turn after forming or is it better to size after forming before you turn your necks on a tight neck 6ppc. Are there other suggestions like water or alcohol as the liquid.

Id form it first while the necks are sturdy and id use rubbing alcohol as the liquid

I really need the answer to the rest of the question, if anyone uses the Hornady forming dies let me know it would be a big help. I appreciate Dusty's help but need a bit more or can someone PM me and we could talk on the phone.

For my 6 Dasher, I turned the necks first (it was a skim turn on gold box to about .012" thick). Went almost to the 6 BR shoulder, then used the Hornady Hydro form die. I used water, but alcohol dries faster.
Then sized them to load.
Turning first allowed me to easily turn the entire neck, then the Dasher shortens the neck ~.010" so it minimized donuts because that old neck (and end of "neck" turning) is now on the middle of the shoulder.

I just started using the die and have done it both ways.

I ended up hydroforming first and then turning the neck. After firing the first time, an adequate part of the neck still ends up on the shoulder.

At Dusty’s advice, I just ordered a heavy leather dead blow hammer. Have not had a chance to use it but expect that it will make the process much quicker and easier.

I suggested a rawhide mallet. Not sure if thats what he got or not. What more are you needing that i left out? If you turn before youll get a donut at best and too thin necks at worst. Use alcohol as your liquid and whack it like you mean it. Theyll come out very straight ready to turn. May take a run over your expander according to your turning tool
