Questions on 6.5x284 for LR Shooting

Just looking for your experience. I am building a 6.5x284 for LR Prone shooting (Sling n Irons).

Bbl will be a Bartline 5R

Do I need a 8.5 or 8 twist for 142 SMKs (or does it matter?)

Also, if you are shooting a no turn neck, what neck diameter did you settle on for your reamer? Will be using Lapua brass.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Bob

I think a 8.5 will work fine, my reamer neck diameter is .299". The loaded rounds i've measured have been .2945". This site says loaded round is .296" but I havent seen one that large yet.

I have 8.5 twist Krieger. Works great. I went with a no turn neck and I believe it was .297. My loaded Lapua brass measures .293- .294. Dave at PTG recommended the size and it works perfect.

Erick,

The .2975 nck is the dimensions I have heard about for a no turn neck chamber. .188 freebore as well for the 142 SMK.

Will give that a try in a new Bartline 5R and see how it shoots.

Thanks for the input.
