Questions about pt&g aluminium firing pin assembly for rem 700

Tom,
I have measured my fall a couple of times, and it came with .200, and on Jerry's suggestion I flipped the bracket, and that increased it to .220. The pin is not fluted. As to the series, it is in the safe, but it was pretty early. It is a left bolt, right port, has a thread milled insert, with some intentional taper, tighter at the back. I agree with your thought that having enough fall is important. To get more, without excessive cock on close, I would have to have the cam notch cut deeper, and I have not identified a problem that would push me to look into that. I think that Farley has an adjustable bracket that looks interesting to me, for fine tuning the hand off.

What action, type of competition, and firing pin tip diameter? Some actions have quite a bit of margin built in. Some are so close to the edge that they get modified to increase striking energy right out of the box. Like a lot of things....it depends. If you are the curious sort, try several combinations, and shoot your tests over a chronograph as well as for size of group. The devil is in the details. What may be true for one action, may not be for another.

Excellent answer...

Guess I should have realized it is just common sense as with all things with guns....this one likes this, that one likes that...Not what I wanted to hear, we all want that magic valley! ;)
