Question Re Shipping to FFLs

Fletcher

Silver $$ Contributor
Is there a website on the Internet that we can legally use to ship guns from an individual to an FFL? As a lot of of us have experienced. Corporate America has taken away our right to move guns through the mail. Unfortunately they think we are bad.

I would use an FFL. But I like keeping the gun in my hands more than someone else’s. That way, I know.

Thank you for your input. Fletcher.

Just ship it yourself from the USPS counter to a type 01 FFL, if it is a long gun that you are shipping. DON'T ship it from an FFL

Long gins can still go USPS otherwise check out shipmygun.com.

I’ve us3d them several times. They are cheaper than shipping by yourself anyway

Exactly what I did but to my chagrin in a Pelican case shipping to Speedy in San Antonio was $161.xx but I wanted it there safely (and insured)! A couple of guys standing in line just laughed when I walked in with that huge case!

Here is what I ran into trying to use ship my gun.
It has to be taken to a UPS distribution center. My local distribution center closed its doors to walk in customers, no explanation.
So, I try one around 50 miles from me, same story. They are trying to make everyone use the UPS Stores, and they won’t even consider shipping anything gun related!
Frustrating

Could you not schedule a 'pick up' by the brown truck?

Just use the USPS and be done with it. Very simple and straight forward. And, you don't have to deal with the morons at the UPS franchise stores. On my labels I have PPR as the company name. No need to attract unwanted attention either. Good luck.

It has long been policy at the UPS stores that they WILL NOT ship firearms and would defer you to a UPS counter/hub, but right now, as an individual, I BELIEVE that UPS has adopted a policy of not accepting fireams OR parts from non-FFLs, but that must be checked.

If you are an FFL, yes, but as a non FFL, I am pretty sure that UPS has adopted a policy of NO firearms OR PARTS, even though that is allowable by the BATFE.

The situation has changed, at least for some locations. An action in a stock was shipped to me Friday from a UPS Store retail location. This change may not have propogated to all retail locations or some retail locations are being pinheads but it is the new UPS policy that the UPS Store retail locations accept guns for shipment.

The shipment was arranged through Ship My Gun.

That is a problem. My local hub drastically shrunk it's customer counter hours. I think they are open 1 hour a day now. There is another that is about 20 miles away, that has maybe 2 or 3 hours a day for customer hours.

You can always hand it directly to a driver. They will scan it in and take it.

We had this discussion on another forum. I had an interesting conversation with the manager of a UPS store regarding shipping a barreled action or rifle. He stated that UPS does ship rifles but the UPS store itself doesn't, due to their policy. However the UPS store policy will allow it if the UPS store doesn't do the packing or labeling of the box. He said that if I boxed the item and generated a label via Pirate Ship they would accept and ship the package. Don't shoot the messenger [me] but that is the exact details of the conversation. He added that UPS does ship to licensed gun shops, and FFL holders.

FTR the barreled action I recently shipped made it to the FFL's destination w/o issue. I also had a copy of the gunsmith's FFL in the event of a problem. The cost with $1K insurance to ship a barreled action and new barrel to be chambered and installed ran about $38 from L.I. to Idaho. I shipped it using the gunsmith's name.

Ok.. Thank you so much for all of your ideas. But in Las Cruces, a non FFLcannot ship a gun. And I mean period…

All of the UPS shipping centers are privately owned, and the main store closed down like they have in many towns.

And all of the people who own the UPS, FedEx and the government run USPS will not ship a gun from Las Cruces without you being an FFL.

Somebody changed the laws about shipping, and didn’t tell us, I wonder who?

So if anybody has used shippedmygun.com and are they safe site to use. And if anyone would please chime in and tell me exactly the process. And anyone and I mean, anyone who has had troubles with them please let me know.

Me and several other people on here would greatly appreciate it very much.

Thank you, Fletcher!!!

I’ve used shipmygun several times.

If the FFL you are shipping to is already in their system as a preferred FFL then it’s very easy. Log in , choose them on the drop down and enter all your info. They’ll review it and when approved will email you the label and a letter to show the local UPS hub that says it’s legal.

If the FFl you are shipping too isn’t already in their system, then you’ll need to have that FFL send their info to Bud’s to get them setup.

But, you still need to use a UPS hub or give directly to a driver. If that’s already a problem in your area then SMG may not be helpful.

State laws may come into play as well. I know where I live, all shipping has to be originated at an FFL, and out of state FFLs will not accept firearms shipped directly.
