Question on Freebore

Trying to understand a reamer print I received (I will be talking with Dave Kiff when he's available)

If I use a Hornady bullet comparator to measure my dummy rounds that I sent to PT&G (measuring between the base of the case to the bullets Ogive) I get 2.27"

I specified for the reamer to be setup such that my dummy rounds should just touch the lands. When I look at the print the measurement from the bolt face to the end of the freebore is 2.16"? Shouldn't this be pretty close to my 2.27" measurement? Or am I misunderstanding something?

I appreciate any info
Thanks

Without seeing the print I am guessing but the freebore 'ends' where the lands would be touching the ogive of the bullet. If you are looking at where the leade angle starts as your freebore 'end' you would need to add the distance to where the ogive actually touches - about .300" in diameter for a .308. Not knowing your caliber, subtract about .008" from your caliber size and find the spot on the leade angle that corresponds to that diameter. That is the end of your freebore as I understand it. You will have to scale your measurements to the size of your diagram obviously.

With Dave there will be no guessing involved. He'll educate you properly. One of the really good guys.
