question on 30br

i am fixen to get into benchrest and was wandering how good a shooter the 30br is ive been to some matches and all i ever see is 22ppc and 6br . im wanting to shoot 100-500 heavy gun... also which barrel is better lija or krieger ?

Depends..... if your area only shoots for groups, then the 6PPC rules. If they only shoot for score, then the 30BR/30PPC rules. I have seen a 30BR agg in the 1s and when win the group matches up against 6PPC in our 100/200 yd club matches. Most the the group shooters in registrared matches shot a 6PPC. A 30BR isn't far behind. I started shooting a 30BR for both score and group last year. The 30BR is a simply cartridge make brass for (neck up a 30BR, turn necks, and fire) and one of the easiest cartridges to tune I have attempted. Only disadvantage I see is shooting the 30BR in free recoil. To me it isn't that bad. However, I have never owned a 22 or 6 PPC and have no comparisons on how much it disturbs the bags. I still lack some wind reading abilities before the grouping limitation of my 30BR becomes an issue. Point blank BR is 100/200 yd. 300/500 yd is typically where the 6BR and improved versions rule. Few people shoot the same gun for point blank and 500 yd.

Go back to the next match and ask more questions. Figure out what yards you what to dive into and get after it.

Luck in your choice, Tim
