Bob,
Contact Randy Robinette. He has some information on successful 30BR performance at 500 and 600 yards, including a Match win by David Green I believe:
"...though not likely the first choice for 500 Yd shooting, this little case has proven quite capable out to that distance - where "capable" is defined as precision. Dave Greene, using his 10.5 pound,LV) .30BR won the first IBS registered 600 Yd. tournament hosted by the St. Louis BR Club this spring - he won BOTH the Light Gun and Heavy Gun [GROUP] legs and of course, the TWO GUN AGG! Dave Greene was shooting 125 Gr. bullets at 3050FPS via a 22" BBL.
...one Ronnie Scaffe, used his new .30BR,which he built specifically for deer hunting in SC) to shoot a 3.125" TEN SHOT group at 500 yd, thus winning a club tournament near his home. So, yes, the .30 BR will deliever the necessary precision out to at least 600 Yd. however, game shooting is another issue."

Re 1000 yards--I think you'll have real problems much past 600. Those bullets are low BC.
The 30x47 case satisfies the Hunter Class Water capacity requirements, that's why it's used instead of the 30BR. Al Nyhus is the man to talk to. He explained to us:
"... the Hunter Benchrest class, which limits it's competitors to a gun of 10 lbs. total weight with scope and having a cartridge case capacity of in excess of 45.0 or 45.5 gr. of water, depending on sanctioning body. In essence, the case capacity of a 30-30 is required. Actions must be a repeater type, although custom actions are allowed. Scope magnification is limited to 6 power and the stock must have a forearm width of no more than 2.25", as opposed to the 3" fore ends of the Varmint class guns that alow the use of unlimited scope magnification. Since the 30BR is too small for the case capacity rule, Al uses what is called the .30 WareWolf, a takeoff on the name of Stan Ware @ SGR Custom Rifles in Westbrook, MN. Using the .30 WareWolf, he has placed highly in many matches, culminating with a win at Maineville, PA in September 2003 to become the IBS 2003 National Champion."
Send us a PM and we can forward Al's email address if you're interested.
