Question - Gempro 250 Electronic Scale

og question was answered but i feel like i need to throw this in there...
i started w/ hornady electronic dispenser and soon realized how inacurate it was.
then after reading reviews bought the gempro. a couple sessions went great and then the drift started.
and youd take the pan off it wouldnt be reading zero when set back on. same issues as noted above about trickling to weight.
now ive got the a&d on the way. there was a good article linked off a thread on i think this forum that explained why it is basically impossible for these type scales to work reliably. i think it boiled down to having like thousands of divisions in a very small amount of movement
moral of the story, buy once cry once. or in my case cry 3 times, lol.

Any chance that you are adjacent to other computer stuff? These strain gauge scales are extremely sensitive to RF interference. A wifi router, bluetooth keyboard, cell phone in your pocket, etc can all case significant interference in the scale.

Wifi router & modem within 3' of the scale during all of my set up/messing around with it. Cell phone is usually not close or in this particular room.

How far away should the scale be from router/modem, and any other RF emitters??

BTW, I can't a consistent weight to show using the same item (62 grain bullet) 2x's at this point. Still looking for tips on how to use this !@#$ thing. LOL

Mine was drifting pretty badly and I got a cheap ferrite core filter off of eBay and put it in the power cord. I also plugged it into a surge protector by itself. I did these two things at the same time so not sure which actually worked. Before doing this it would drive me nuts but I just loaded 40 the other night and it only moved .02 back and forth a couple times which is good enough for me.

I looked for a choke filter as one possible cure, but the local store did not have any, will need to continue the hunt for that, will try the surge protector, and look into what I can do about my set up away from the router/modem.

Thanks for the tips.

jpx,
When you set up any electronic scale, keep it at least 48" away from any RF emitting devices, even refrigerators that cycle. That's what I found after doing some testing a few years ago. The surge protector is good for power surges, but doesn't help in terms of RF interference. And for what it's worth, I sold that Gempro 250 after I found it was a constant pain in the rear (too unstable and takes time to settle down, something my other scales didn't have a problem with) when having to calibrate it because I take my scales down and have to lock them up because of where my reloading room is located..my garage.

"Question...Does a Gempro 250 scale readout show weight two digits (or more) to the right of the decimal point when weighing in the "grain" mode?"..." I'd just like to have a more critical weighing scale with a more definitive readout capability."

Alex,
The link below is from another Gempro 250 post (forum member jlow) that the manufacturers should include in their brochure. It works wonderfully.
Which Gempro scale?

^+1 on the Gempro and the A&D FX120i . . . adding only that IME the GemPro doesn't handle trickling very well. Add a particle or two and you will find it necessary to lift/replace the pan to get a new reading. Seems like the scale's programming fights hard to avoid "drift".

I solve most Gempro problems by replacing them with beam scales. It's amazing what can be achieved with "laboratory grade" gravity.

Thanks for that Scott. And I know from talking to a few more serious shooters, that you are absolutely right. I think sometimes we tend to overlook, for expediency and speed sake (speed in terms of reloading and not velocity), that gravity scales are still in use and some have told me, are actually more accurate than the electronic scales many of us use. In fact, my original mentor in Benchrest shooting still uses a QUALITY gravity scale that cost him $750 some 10 years ago. The nicest part, is if you use such a scale, you do not run into so many of the side issues faced when using an electronic scales, frustration being the simplest to cure.

My GP250 was a pain in the ass before I learned the intricacies of it. It used to drift pretty bad on me until I began letting it warm up, then calibrating it. It may drift .02 during a run of 100 chargers, but I can live with that.

My primary powder is H4350, and I know 1.5 kernals weighs roughly .02gr, so it is easy to underthrow by .1 then adding 1-2 kernals will hit my charge weight. Ball powder is another story though, and can be a PITA.

I found a radio shack choke today, so will get that put on, and mess with moving the wifi router/modem to the other side of the room and go from there. Thanks for all the help & tips.
