Question for the benchrest people

I'm planning on replacing the stock on my Remington 700 SA 6mmbr (currently has an H-S Precision) to either a Bobby Hart IBS or a USA Revolution type stock. The added weight, the 3" forend and the flat buttstock bottom surface are the driving factors for the new stock. If you guys have any pros or cons with these stocks, or something similar I'd love to hear your thoughts. I mostly shoot IBS 100-200 yard matches with this particular rifle (I do not want the aluminum bedding block too, I'll pillar and glass bed it myself when the final decision is made)

Don't know anyone using those stocks in SR BR. McMillian would be my choice as you they are made specifically for SR BR and available in Hunter Class,LV or HV. I believe the B. Hart has an aluminum block and is geared to LR. H/S Precision stocks won't cut it for that competition. I caution about bedding the stock yourself.....If you don't get it straight with the barrel.....you'll be forever chasing your tail. Not a good thing to go through a season(s) and never really learning anything with a gun you can't trust.

I don't think those stocks are legal for short range BR. They don't meet the dimension requirements and don't have draft in the rear. Matt

Not IBS sanctioned shoots....just a couple local clubs that follow "some" of the rules. A few of the guys shooting the custom class already have stocks similar,..thinking I should jump on board and level the playing field a little for myself. Got a pile of guys shooting the Savage 12 F-Class 6mmbr in the factory class and that's apparently legal there too!,..look at the barrel and stock on that thing compared to some poor guy with a model 700 ADL 22-250 with a 22" sporter barrel,..

Matt is correct. To be legal for SR the butt stock must have a defined slope between the heel and pistol grip. The original intent was to replicate hunting rifles and prevent competitors from using a return-to-battery rest design.

There-in lies the age-old problem with defining "factory class". Inevitably someone gets bent out of shape and forgets club shoots are for fun.

It would track better. The Savage comes from factory with those stocks. If you replace it on a Remington I would think it is no longer factory. It would be semi custom to me. Matt

Again,...these are nut dead nut rule following clubs,....ANY stock I choose will be legal for our custom class,...
