Question for machinists

This thread prompted me to make a more refined tooling. I just use a sleeve and depth mic and made a cone too with a travel dial years ago. If I bump the travel dial... Zero is lost and need to reset. Anyhow, found a 0-2" Starrett micrometer head and will make an all in one tool that will check headspace and cone depth. There is another one on ebay right now...

I learned about the use of sleeves some years ago

As one never afraid of being late to the party, I'm learning about this now...
Reading between the lines here on the specifics, but think I've got the concept, and sure looks like a timesaver.

So- if I foller correctly.... use a snug fitting sleeve over the tenon, some arbitrary, set length "over" the desired number for both tenon length and go gauge to shoulder length?

You are measuring the distance from tenon shoulder to end of go gauge with tool to match the measurement from action face to bolt face. Depending on tool... Its either a calculated number or exact reading. One I plan on making will be actual number and zero set on granite plate...
