Bedding question

I'm building another prone gun. I'm doing the stock myself from a laminate. I've read a lot about the tube gun stocks and am planning on an R5 in the spring for XTC. I've always been told to bed under the chamber of the barrel and float the rest of the way out on a conventional stock. But the tube guns are floated the whole way from the lug forward. My question is, knowing how accurate the tube guns are, do I really need to bed under the chamber of the barrel on my laminate?

I used to, then relieved the barrel bedding on one rifle and it shot better. Did another and had the same result. No need to bed the barrel anywhere within the channel.

Most of the chamber bedding is done on hunting rifles that are going to see rougher service than any holer puncher.

I think that chamber bedding is/was done based on unproven conjecture, or experience that was gained before pillar bedding came along. With a good pillar bedding job, in my experience, it is not needed.

NO (I'm with the other guys)...

I used to bed the first inch or two under the barrel, but now, I bed the lug, and backwards. Nothing touches the barrel.
