Question about gunsmithing a custom benchrest rifle

When I first got into LR (near 20 years ago) I went to a custom builder and he told me a 3K starting price. Then a buddy recommended a Remington 700 stainless 5R in 308, a stock rifle. I bought it and out of the box (for $960) it shot sub 1/2 moa groups. I used that rifle for a long time. If youve just got to have something expensive, look at Mile High Shooting who carries Accuracy International, and other top brands. They will out shoot you for a long time and its off the rack, have it in 4 days or so. If you want to wait months for something that wont be any better, enjoy.

Or look at the Sniper's Hide classified section, all kinds of nice sticks over there.

Every 5R I've seen shoots quite well. But this a rimfire thread!
