Question About FX120i and Auto Trickler Usage

I just received my scale and trickler, and am curious about other folks' experiences....

I've been using a RCBS Chargemaster, a beam scale and Dandy trickler but am going to begin working with the FX120 setup. I'm sure I'll experiment myself with the best way to do this, but would like to know how others do it.

Do you still use a Chargemaster (or other auto dispenser) to "pre-throw" powder so that the Auto-Trickler only has to trickle a few grains to reach the target? Or do you use a spoon to add powder into the pan to advance the trickling process?

I'm watching some Youtube video also.

Thanks in advance for any input you can offer...

Before I got Adam's auto-throw (highly recommend) I would just dump a scoop of powder using Lee Powder scoops (link) on to the scale and let the auto-trickler trickle up.

Pat: yep.....looking at it now I'm thinking I should've bought the auto-throw at the same time, but now I think I'll wait, get what I have up and running and then decide.

Thanks for the response.

The AutoThrower wasn't available when I bought my AutoTrickler, but my Chargemaster was lol. So I used the CM to underthrow the next charge while I set a bullet over the previous one.

Eventually I got Lee Dippers to remove the CM from my benchtop and free up an outlet.

After a few powder spills transferring powder into the mouth of the A&D, the Lee Dippers were replaced by the AutoThrower.

The $25.00 Lee Perfect Powder Measure works great for that. Then, when you buy the Auto Throw, you have a set of spare parts.

My version called the Bluebox mod Arduino Trickler can use any powder dispenser to automate your loading provided it have a 7/8 die mouth. That with the rotating cog and a simple setting of steps needed to make the dump and it will dump your initial powder and trickle to your set weight.

I bought the fx120i with the trickler when they had the sale. after watching and reading a lot on them I decided to use my charge master as some have already mentioned.

I under throw by appx 1.5 grs. I dump that into the pan on the FX and replace the pan on the CM. once the fx is at desired weight. I remove the pan, charge the shell and replace the pan on the fx. by this time the CM is done dispensing. I take that pan and dump it on the fx, which usually has just started dispensing. I replace the pan on the CM, then move the funnel to the next shell. by this time the auro trickler is done or almost done and then I repeat the process.

Once I get in. Rythem I can keep going and charge 50 rounds very quickly. if I get ahead of the charge master I simply tap the pan to trigger the target weight so it stops and I can remove it and charge the fx pan before the trickler puts to much powder in it and I have an over throw.

I did try the leele powder scopes but found them much slower to use.

I used same set up as the OP initially, Dandy Trickler with CM, sold the CM after buying FX120 with Auto Trickler.. which made the new set up even more of a bargain!!
IME Lee scoops are as fast if not faster than using any other method..
