Question about bedding AGAIN

Hello to all,
I am about ready to bed a Rem 700 SA onto a H-S stock, and the question is do you bed the recoil lug too? I read an article in a magazine once and the EXPERT said the recoil lug should not touch the stock anywhere except the back of the lug, and the next article they have a picture of a Kimber with a Mc Millan stock with bedding everywhere around the lug and 2 inch of the barrel. So which is the correct way? or is it like try it and if it doesn't shoot try something else? THANKS.

You can bed the recoil lug and its a good idea to make sure that its bearing on the back side.
When you bed the gun you can bed the first couple inches of the barrel also and still keep from having any of the recoil lug, except the rear)touching, the way you do that is to mask it off with tape.
I use 3 layers of duck tape on the front sides and bottom leaving the back side to tough. after the bedding has cured the tape is removed and their is clearance on both sides, front and bottom.

and use plenty of release agent on the tape .

You should always bead the lug I like the wrap 2 layers of electrical tape around the edge of the lug which will allow 0.010" border around the lug so when you torque down the action screws the lug is not bottoming out in the lug recess.

Hello all
So at the moment I take it as you do not have the mud touching front, sides and bottom of the lug, correct? Because couple years ago Fred M. from SSS built me a gun and he bedded all aroud the lug, no clearance, and it shot fairly good,10 shots < 1" ) and then I bedded 2" of the barrel and that when it really shines,10 shots 1/2") but it was a 6AI shooting 55gr Nosler BT at 4200 fps and I roasted that barrel after 1500 rounds.
