Putting some shine on old brass

Citric acid chemically removes the oxidation. Put em in a big pyrex bowl with hot water and add some “lemishine” ( a liberal tablespoon not very important to be accurate). Watch the magic happen, and it will seem like magic. Swirl em around a big with fingers, drain and do it one or two more times. rinse twice with fresh so no residual is left in the cases.

Dry with a towel and then dehydrator or oven on cookie sheet.

Won’t hurt the brass at all it’s just surface oxidation.

Tried this stuff to remove moly coating on bullets. Here is the results. Seemed to remove the charcoal color but bullet still seems to have a little different feel as if some of the moly is still in it just not the color.

Interesting - you can definitely still see some of the moly on the bullets - normally they would become very "bright" if they were taking the tarnish off the copper too. Did you change water and solution a couple of times and just stir them around with your hand? Did it work any better/different than just a little soap and water might have? Good experiment!

I actually put them in a small cup cake size container added hot water and about 2 tbsp of powder. Only one dose and moved them around with a plastic spoon. Guess I never considered more than one dose. I'll try tumbling now and another dose of Lemi shine.

I have about 175 moly coated bullets that I want to use for fire forming some brass but don't want the effects of the moly in my bore. I think a tumble and another soaking will make them fine for my use.

citric acid from lemishine is really mild, you can use your bare hands in a pyrex bowl to agitate them a bunch. women pay good money for stronger citric acid concentrations to exfoliate their skin! Sounds like while not perfect, was good enough for you.

I'll keep that in mind when I do it again. Seemed like it burned a little when I got it on my hands. Course I have a few cuts and scrapes on my hands. I'm confident it does get most of the moly coating off the bullets.

Agree that lemishine works marvelously. I do have a few suggestions for the process.

I like a few shots of simple green, teaspoon of lemishine and a dash of dish soap. I use VERY hot water and agitate with a paint stir stick or old plastic kitchen implement of some sort.

Be certain to rinse VERY thoroughly. I rinse with hot soapy water, then several cycles hot water. I finish with boiling hot water.

This process ensures shiny, clean brass with no acid residue left that dries out VERY quickly when placed on a dark towel in full sunlight.
