Anyone seen these anywhere? This in the Wellington Mall in south Florida. Walmart in my neck of the woods has the closest ones reserved for LEOs and first responders but the Purple Heart spots are new to me. My2¢, They should be in every parking lot. IMG_4804.JPG

I really love seeing this happen. When kids pull into parking lots with their parents and they ask what Purple Heart parking means, they get a lesson on sacrifice and patriotism. Something schools have chosen not to teach anymore. Maybe some millennials will ask as well :)

I live less than 5 miles from the Wellington Mall. I do understand that many women have served our country with distinction, and in no way is this meant to belittle them. But they (the women that have paid the price for this honor) are the only ones that will ever use this spot. There is absolutely nothing of any interest to a man in the Wellington mall. There once was a Sears many years ago and even then it had no tool dept. You can't but a rifle, a fishing pole, ammo, nothing I can think of that a man can use. I haven't been in years but at one time you could buy a dress suit, I don't think that is the case anymore. The locals call this a chick mall.

Up to this point in my life I have lived in several states. I wear, (most of the time) a baseball cap with, Vietnam Veteran in small lettering. Two states where I have been thanked the most for my service are New Mexico and Virginia.

I'm proud to say that we as a nation have come a looooooooong way since the Vietnam war when returning soldiers were more likely to be spat upon.

I was on leave, in full uniform, coming through the Pittsburgh airport in 1971 when a bunch of young people called me a "baby killer". I just let it pass, no sense trying to explain to them that I had been drafted. No sense trying to explain that my father was a World War II era veteran or that my uncles fought in the Pacific and I was expected to serve if called upon.

However I wasn't ashamed of being a soldier - I wasn't going to run away to Canada or burn my draft card. I wasn't brave either, just did my duty as ordered - that's what a soldier does.

It's good to see our soldiers being respected these days. A soldier just does his duty - the rest of it is up to the politicians and a soldier shouldn't be blamed if a war is unpopular.

On a RV trip to Iowa we were grocery shopping at the local Hy-Vee Supermarket when I saw these parking spots in front of the store. Not only did I see the sign but the parking spot lines were Red, White and Blue. I was impressed and had to take a picture of this parking spot. The bottom of the sign is hard to read in the photo but it says Veterans, Active Duty, EMT's, Police Force and Fire FightersHy-Vee Parking Lot Sign.jpg
