PT&G "Extreme" 700 Blueprint Package Work Quality?

Regard, Matt.
Most of the time...re cutting of receiver threads is an overrated operation. The barrel squares up on the action face and only the first few threads load. The threads have to be way way out before they cause accuracy issues, IME. An oversize action isn't a huge deal but it is a significant inconvenience if you'd like to buy a takeoff...and the smith absolutely should be informed that he's fitting a barrel to an action that has been opened up. Many will assume standard size.

fwiw & imho,
Who is going to go to the trouble of having an action blueprinted and then put a takeoff barrel on it? That is something to be done for someone who has far more time, and interest in tinkering, than money. Not saying it is wrong, however, I'm particular about which Best Grade Barrel Blank I happen to choose and exactly how that barrel is going to be chambered. To say nothing of how the reamer is going to be setup for freebore. At that point I STILL consider it a a crap shoot. IMHO...

Yeah this tang, mandrel idea has so many things wrong with it you would be chasing your tail non-stop. First of all measuring the face to the front of the bolt lug means NOTHING! A good smith will clean those up just to look “nice” and keep as much metal as possible being front is just cosmetic and along for the ride. Get some dye on the lugs and test closure with a lapping tool keeping pressure. This is the correct measure of checking. Some folks have have forgot what blueprinting is for and make it something its not to have something to blame for the gun not shooting well besides the shooter. Lol Threads being unnecessarily opened up if its not needed just to say its blueprinted is the goofiest thing Ive heard yet. They are measured and again a GOOD smith is hoping for the minimal amount to run true on the minor then clean the major. The face has 98% more effect along with the recoil lug and shoulder than any thread being .002 or.003 out is evergoing to have. I document every measurement for my customers and keep a camera on my lathe for any serious jobs. We have to get back to the basics and stop trying to create more work for a non-existent problem. Granted I guess im on the younger end of smiths but I love what I do and I literally research or watch others do their magic to see if there is a better way or problem/solution im missing. P.S. if using a sharp properly stored blueprinting set with the tight proper bushings and good oil, it will perform just as well as a center point cut. I know this because we have compared all measurements on 2 different builds.
