Pros and cons on 22-204 vs 223AI ?

I would venture a guess that a 20 PPC is just a 6 PPC necked down to a 20 caliber.
Close, but not exactly. The 6 PPC starts out as a 220 Russian. So in fact the 20 PPC is a 220 Russian necked down and blown out to a 20 PPC. Amounts to the same thing, but it's smoother to neck down a 22 than a 6. A 22 PPC or a 6 PPC bushing die can be used for resizing with a smaller bushing. If we are talking prairie dog ammo, a Wilson seater for a 22 PPC should work just fine.

So going off track as I’m still looking for the best case for my 223 in wind, how would the 20-223ai perform vs a 223ai? Also I would need to change the barrel to from 224 down to 20 cal yeah?

You might want to look at the 20 Tactical and just a straight 20 Practical which gives up little to 20-223AI/204Ruger and is a simple neck down, in this day and age no wasting components to fire-form and again off the shelf dies

As with so many things, it's a cost benefit question. I have 20-223AI, two 223 AIs and a 20 Practical. The 20's are cool with low recoil and noise, but as you point out, it would require a new barrel. IMO the simple choice is a 223 AI. Keep in mind my primary targets prairie dogs which you don't have in Oz. But based on a 40 gr bullets in all, accuracy is similar as is speed. There are no bad choices.

I would stay with the 223AI mainly due to the brass issue. Like "mule" said, you can run your 223AI reamer farther in and use 204 brass to make a 22-204Ackley or 223AIX as I call mine. About 100fps faster with 53gr Vmax bullets. You can make it out of 222 mag brass, but I prefer 204 brass. I have both the AI and the AIX and like them both. I use the AIX in our varmint silhouette matches, because they go to 520yds and I figure the extra 100fps doesn't hurt

So on that note, going one further would you say that with a 5.56 or 223 parent case that the 223AI would best the best overall in the wind when your taking into account ongoing cost, effort etc?

I think you should pick something then learn to shoot. 300 yards isnt exactly difficult. Aint nothing a regular 223 cant do, and itd be most economical over all when your a bloke who shoots roos commercially. Id be worried way more about keeping knives sharp. Cuz your problem aint killing em, your problem is skinning and gutting all them bastards. That sounds miserable. Youd be better off investing in someone to do the work for you!!

Your right 223 is fine for it, it’s got nothing to do with that or “learning to shoot” I’m simply asking cause until I came on this site about a month ago I’d never even heard of any of theses calibers!!!! So yeah I’m asking questions about what all these calibers do cause when it’s blowing 35 or 40 or mitigating larger drops over distance so your not wrecking a carcass with a neck shot, if it makes life easier why not?? If there is an advantage and if it’s putting more money in my pocket, I’ll take it! I don’t have to skin em only gut them and I can do one in less then a minute if I’m pushing, so I’ll keep the money and do it myself! I’ve been doing it for a living for 3 years now so I must have “learnt” to hit something

Haha! Thats interesting. Just gutting them isnt too bad then. I could go for a week of that and some chicken fried roo back strap. Never ate that!

You can have as much chicken fried backstrap as you want for a weeks work haha. Chicken fried lamb would be better though. Commercial shooters can usually sell deer, goat and pigs as well
