Proposed NRA F-Class Rule Book

I don't like "easier." I realize I am probably the only one holding this view...

No, you're not. I want it to be difficult. I made Expert this year and hope to make Master in 2015. I will be extremely proud when i do. This is one of the big reasons why I shoot FTR. Lowering Master to 94% seemed extreme and, given the advancement of scores as the sport grows, would have made for a very crowded class.

All of this talk about changing the classifications is interesting, but i feel the one factor that is not addressed much is pit service and scoring in general. I talked to some people that attended the Nationals in Arizona and said that some of the pullers either paid or not were horrible at best. They over heard comments like "what do i do if the hole is touching the line" or new-bee shooters not at all clear on how the pits work.
The way I see it, as the shooter you can judge the wind, mirage, etc. but once you pull the trigger your fate lies in the hands of the puller. How do you know if that person knows what they are doing? I hear about safety on the line and how much time you have but very little if any about pit service and proper scoring.
One person said they were in the pits to be an observer and was forced to pull a target because someone missed the bus. These scores are only as good as they are accurate. Experienced shooters should be assured that they are getting good experienced pit service.

Eric,

I've been using an 'elbow bag' like what you describe (a Protektor 'brick' filled with heavy sand, or an equivalent tactical bean bag when flying to save weight) since 2005 or 2006. At every FCNC from 2007 on, and two FCWC matches, along with numerous other matches both stateside and internationally. Never heard a peep about it from *anyone*, shooters or officials. Lots of precedence for ya.

Why change the classifications??? There is enough lowering of standards in our culture and I did not expect it from the NRA. I have only shot 4 F/TR matches so far and am just a lowly SS, but the challenge of the journey to M or HM is part of what draws me to the sport. I do not want it to be easier! And I don't think it is fair to those who have put their heart and soul into getting to M or HM (or any classification for that matter) to have their accomplishments diminished by lowering the bar. My vote is to leave it alone. It's a new form of "dumbing down" IMHO.
