Prone Shooting Preference?

Aren't you the one that complained about $50 entry fees? Who's going to pay for your creature comforts?

I have nothing against $50 entry fees in a well run match with reliable scoring. My objection was to the increase from $35 to $50 at a time when there were repeated problems with the electronic scoring system. We'll see if Talladega can string together a year of matches without the electronic system crashing and burning, or of they can figure out that "NRA Sanctioned" means shooters are not using suppressors. (Photo from Talladega "NRA Sanctioned" F-Class match on 11 March 2017.)

A premium fee should first be about a well run match with reliable scoring and careful compliance with NRA rules (if it is an approved or registered match). Creature comforts are only important once those are established.

The range I shoot at has a covered firing line and it will not allow grass to be grown underneath it. Shooting in the dirt sucks. So they are considering putting down the soft rubber surface found on playgrounds. Was told this is done by laying a foundation of level gravel first then the rubber (think shredded tire material) is heated to a melting point, sprayed on hot and then leveled off by a compactor, roller. The soft rubber provides protection of elbows and equipment and the gravel allows drainage from any driven rain that gets underneath the canopy.

Most ranges I shoot on are nice, soft, spongy grass, which is nice and comfortable to lay down on but is harder to keep the rear bag stable. Concrete mounds are great for rear bag stability but I usually wish I had some extra cushioning underneath my bones and elbow pads are a great idea.
Most club shoots I go to now set up shades to shoot under, either to keep the summer heat off you, or to let you stay dry when it is raining. My local range uses astroturf (artificial grass) on the mounds and shades for shooting under.
