Project Idea

Was wondering what yall's thoughts were on the following idea:

mounting a remington 540 in an anschutz 64 MS stock?

I do believe the actions are around the same diameter, but one is longer than the other. anyone attempt this before?

What should I watch out for/ keep in mind?

I'll be using a timney 788 trigger on the 540 and removing the safety lever as It'll strictly be a target gun.

I understand its putting a lot of lipstick on a pig but, i dont like the 64 actions (aesthetics) and have several 540/580 series guns that need upgrading.

Thoughts?

I would be interested in your outcome.
I have two concerns right off.
One is the bolt spacing. Do the anschutz have two action screws or one?spacing?
Two is trigger hangar height. If the action is seated will the trigger be in the correct position in relationship to the grip?

Two inputs.
I do 580 conversion s to center fire and I use a stock blank that has no inletting . a 1" router bit mount up in the mill and away you go. Clean up with hand tools.

Find a flat top Mac millan stock and do the same thing . some good paint and you are golden.

Good luck

Regarding the bolt spacing: im planning on drilling new holes for the mounting screws and pillar bedding, thus keepin the bolt cut out in the stock, my gun has only one action screw so adding a second one i would use the forward trigger guard screw since thats also an action screw for the 64.

And then for the trigger blade, maybe cut off part of the original and replace it with a piece of something that would allow it to extend enough to the right length
