Problem With Leupold Windage Dial On 3-9 Power Scope

Guys, I am having an issue with the windage adjustment on my 3-9X40m/m Leupold scope. I have this scope mounted on one of my .308 rifles and decided to check it out this Sunday morning. It has been a while since I shot it and was assuming everything was OK. What it is doing the windage adjustment doesn't want to move or when it does it is not correct. My first grouping, of three shots @ 75 yards, placed the windage too far left around .50" so I adjusted it and fired one again three shots. Afterwhich, I checked where it was hitting and it didn't move at all after a 5-click adjustment to the right. I made another adjustment and the windage didn't even move, even with very carefull aming, so once again I made another adjustment to the right and this time it was about 2" to the right. I tried once more to adjust the windage and this time it was back and off the P.O.A. by almost an inch. On the vertical (Up) adjustment there is no problem as the adjustment works fine, and I got a really tight grouping of 5-shots @ 75 Yards; the bullet placement was such that I practically 5-shots into one ragged hole. I checked all scope mounting screws and they are all tight. I am using Leupold one piece scope mount. I've never had an issue like this before on this particular rifle. It would be nice to know what the problem is with the windage part of this Leupold scope. <Thanks Much>

Windage and elevation adjustments are not infinite, you may have/are near the end of the range of adjustment. Do you have windage adjustable one piece base? If so that is where the initial windage zero should have been accounted for. Also when scopes sit around for long periods the erector should be moved in both directions (exercised) you will need to count clicks or grad marks to return to your zero.

Thanks for your reply. The windage adjustments on my one piece Leupold mount are fine and tight. As for a rifle scope that set too long, I somewhat agree with you on this, but I've never had this problem with any scope. I think I gave the "Erector" plenty of excerise this morning, but I"ll check once more. Thanks once again. :)
