What is going on...Yesterday I visited a gun store on my weekly tour looking for H-4895. Anyway, I walked past the primer area and they had the following:
18 bricks of CCI SRP
45+ bricks of CCI Large-Small-Magnum Pistol primers
10+- bricks of various FED Primers
And about a jillion shotgun primers.
LRP...Zero, nada, zilch.

Yea, my local shop has a good supply of primers but still no H4895.

They have Varget and I have been using that in some of my 223-bolt rifles for practice shooting, rationing the H4895 for my serious ghog rifles. :)

FYI, and I checked this with CCI, the small pistol magnum primers, the 550s are the same primers as their standard small rifle primers, the 400s. The only difference is the packaging. Everything else is the same. Rather than take my word, I suggest that you give them a call.

What’s going with primers? Who knows but I’d venture a guess that many of the large rifle primers are being used overseas in the Ukrainian conflict. Everything else has seemed to become steadily more available.

It's been pretty good lately at a couple places near me. One place has just about everything, and a lot of it..even 100 bricks of 1000 LRP.

I even picked up some CCI 41 today at Sportsman's Warehouse, and I haven't seen those in months. Unfortunately, they limit 200 per day...so I need to go keep going back until I get them al, lol.

Here's whats going on! Theres guys literally have every single app notifying them when stuff is available so they buy all they can and turn around a jack the price way up.
If you wanna blame somebody blame the fools who buy on Gunbroker.
I will guarantee you theres sharks who look at this and other sites every day looking to see whats broadcast on the net thats available and were.
If that wasn't the case then why is it Gunbroker is the only one with LRP's?

Perhaps. But there's a ton of small rifle primers available from on line retailers. [Not GB]

Here's an article from CSIS who uses DOD #'s in Jan 9th 2023.

I would be very surprised if any small arms ammo form the USA was going to the Ukraine. the pictures Ive been seeing mostly show 7.62 -39 and 7.62-54R Many places in Europe use these exact same chamberings and would be an already set up source for this ammo. I am not saying we aren't paying for it , it just deosn't make sense for us to retool to make it when others are set up for it. I di see one "sniper' with a Savage maybe we send him ammo or has he taken advantage of the Nut and chambered to something available local?

I visited a GS late last week because I was only 45 minutes from it rather than the usual 2+ hr drive. They had several cases of Varget, H4831SC ???, Benchmark, a good variety of Accurate powders as well, pretty good selection of bullets, but not a single primer in the house.

JPX i used to get stuff from Weidner's when they were still in Johnson City. I always called in my order so i could get a weather report. To this day I still believe that the worst thing that ever happened to me was my parents moving me away from Jonesborough.

Last week when my buddy and I were up in North Carolina at BCR they had most of the brands and size primers you would want in stock. They do not ship powder or primers. That's why we made the trip.
They were stacked to the ceiling with powder in the store and the stock room was mostly full.
You had to lean over shooting supplies to get to the counter.
