Not smirking anymore!

So for the last few months, I had been silently watching guys complaining about the price of stuff. Always thinking, for as much shooting as I'm doing I have enough stuff for a while. Well, I got a new rifle. I went to Waynesboro, PA. today to pick up my granddaughter and my great-granddaughter. They were coming over for a short weekend visit. I passed a gun store and turned around to check for some primers and powder. I was looking for FED 215's or CCI LR Magnum primers. They had them!! The CCI primers were $19.00 a hundred! I was so dumbfounded I didn't even hear how much the FED's were. I walked out without even asking about powder.

I know supplies are limited right now and it sucks. I started stocking up last march when i saw this coming. I just hope it ends soon. Some things i needed i could not find even before this all took off. I have not had to pay too high priced yet. Ive had 6.5 prc on back order for quite some time now.

I've seen the similar significant price hikes in bullets when and if you can find them. Primers are non-existent in my area far as I can determine. Powder seems to be available and while the prices are higher, they are not excessive around here.

I have enough rifle components for about 18 to 24 months if I ration my shooting carefully between limited range practice and hunting. The lousy weather and a knee injury is aiding in the rationing. :(

Thanks to a lead on this forum, I was able to obtain some Hornaday 125 XTP, 38 caliber bullets at Blue Collar Reloading at a 23% savings over Midway / local shop I've dealt with for many years.

For guys like me on fixed income, this sport may be pricing itself out of the market. I'm not a conspiracy guy but intentional or not, this has the feel of the ultimate non-legislative gun control measure.

I loaded my last round of ammo a few weeks ago. I have enough ammo in different calibers to get me through 8-10 hunting seasons if I don't miss. o_O

I took up casting lead bullets last year and that seems to be the future for me. Powdercoating them allows for long term storage with no concerns of wax melting, etc.

I can only imagine the sticker shock I will experience in the future when I get back to reloading...

We're reaping the benefits of Trillion Dollar Deficits. I'm sure sticker shock from the election has something to do with it as well but you just can't keep throwing money around like a drunken democrat without suffering the consequences. Both parties are to blame but things were looking up before the election. It could get worse over time.

I know I'm gonna get flamed for this but the last administration added 7.8 trillion to the deficit in four years. BOTH PARTIES are writing checks our kids will be burdened with for decades if not longer.
