Primers?

This morning I was going through my supplies and I found a full case of 7 1/2’s that I’d sealed up in food-saver vacuum bags. - Dated 2014.
Needless to say it made my day. - I knew I had them, but had trouble finding where I’d put them.
I was told by a shop owner that this supposed shortage is because the Dept. of homeland security ordered 28 million small rifle primers and other sizes as well. - Any truth to this ?

If they were trying to dry up our supply of primers, they have succeeded!

To each his own level of comfort. I have not been doing this long enough to have gone through a shortage. Now I know and will buy in times of plenty. I wish I had known before. If I had, I would have bought at least 10k-15k of any primer I use, enough to get me by a couple of years if need be.

Same here I kind of enjoyed going to a local shop when I needed something, imagine that! Will order by the 5000 case from now on.

Another thing is, people are buying up all the ammo the ammo makers can pump out. The ammo makers are running 24/7 producing ammo, and are using a boat load of primers. I bet they get first dibs.

I've only been shooting cfbr & reloading for it for a few years so hadn't been exposed to these shortages before. A few weeks before they were all gone I was set to order 3000 more but PV wanted 30.00 for shipping so decided not too. Big mistake as I was out until a trade this weekend will allow me to finish the season.
Shooting rfbr I'd never seen any shortage whatsoever in quality match ammo. Which surprises the hell out of me as people were paying triple or more for the junk plinking ammo equaling the price of match ammo when all this was going on in the past.
Hope before next season it passes otherwise rfbr will be all I have.

The cost of equipment in the sport and supplies to keep going get what you need when you need it worry about the cost later

Question. I just realized that I have several 223 cases that I resized and primed.

I could decap them and use the primers in my other loads when the time comes.

Anyone have experience in the failure rate of primers that have been removed and reused?

I haven’t had any issues decapping a new primer and reusing.

Im up in Post falls ID for the last 2 weeks, all stores in spokane valley, post falls, cord alene, are stripped of all ammo whether in boxes of 50 or bulk 380acp, 9mm, 45acp, .223 and .308, but hunting stuff is good in 308 and all other calibers. Plenty of 10mm and 40 cal. A store called Black Sheep is full of primers in every size, (cci/federal, cci white box) Priced at $34 to $39 per 1k,
shelves packed with 1lb and 8lb powders, just about all brands...cept varget. A place had cci 400 at $24 (limited to 1k per person)
1 store had 200k of bulk .223, but off the floor you have to ask for it and limited to 100 rounds at an inflated price. 7.63x39 is packed at a few places, but limited to 100 rounds per day, per person.
AR15s are in most stores from 519 to over 1200. You just have to do some driving to find places that are getting stock. Sportsmans warehouse is a joke though...like an empty building in those areas.

ZERO failures for me.
