primers question

I have loaded a lot of shotgun, and am still somewhat new to centerfire rifle.

Is there a general ranking of strength of the different small rifle and different large rifle primers as to brisance or strength like there is with shotgun, ie are some known to be hotter than others, or not so much in rifle primers?

for example is the CCI BR2 known to be hotter than the federal Gold Medal large rifle primer?

Look up the Riflemans Journal. He's done a lot of testing in this area.

CCI primers are at the mild end. I find them interchangeable with Russian primers. There are several web sites that have tested primer strength. Try Google.

You should be primed and ready to go I bookmarked these when researching data on slamfires in military rifles. For my AR15s I'm using Remington 7 1/2 primers and ball powder, and the 7 1/2 is a "hot" primer.

Yes, if you can't get reliable ignition with a Rem 7½, check your powder, it may be wet.

Remington ran Lake City Ammunition Plant for a very long time, but the Army wanted them to use reclaimed ball powders. So Remington made hot primers to light Winchester powder!

The main reason for military plants using ball propellant is it meters easier in automated loaders known as SCAMP lines.

Hundreds of millions of rounds were loaded with stick propellant and the 50 and 7.62 match still are.
