I remember, a few years back, there was a published primer test that showed pictures of the primers during ignition and the size of each flash. Does anyone have access to that test?

Yes, Many years ago, many years, there were photos in PS. If memory serves, I believe the test was done by Steve Chernicky. This was a long time ago.

Thank you, Fred. That isn't the exact one I remember, but it looks good. I searched this site under every version of "primer test" and could not find this.

The primer flash photos your are thinking of may be German Salazar's articles in The Rifleman's Journal blog. The photos shown above are taken from those articles. The articles have been archived and can be accessed through links here:

They are a little slow to load and you will have to search through the archives to find the primer articles, but they should be in there somewhere.
