Primer question....light strikes....

Is it possible to have such a light primer strike that it not set off the charge completely..?

I had a pistol (.38 spl ) primer with a super light hit , think dropping the bolt on an AR then ejecting the live round... The round stuck the bullet in the barrel but there was unburned powder in the case and barrel... Got home and pulled a few and weighed charge it was loaded on my Dillon 550 and was just fine and ten+ rounds before it were fine although I did find another one with a light strikes and that round went way low on the target..

We have been noticing light strikes and sometimes the round just not going off at all , it's been getting worse... The gun got sent back to the manufacturer today and will be sold when returned , I just won't trust one after a problem as a carry gun... I check each round before seating a bullet always so it definitely had powder and even though these were CCI primers it's done it with Federal also....

So I have never had this problem and wondered if it was even possible.... Any questions will be answered if needed and as always thanks for your time and help....

Have you tried factory/anothers loads ?

Don't discount too much lube around the firing pin and it's dried out and restricting the firing pin movement....even on a quite new rifle. We had this issue with factory ammo or handloads in a Tikka with under 100 rounds down the tube.
Our NZ master importers gunsmith even tried to charge us for cleaning the bolt of that near new rifle which one had never been touched or let alone done a trip away in the elements.
In this case I put it down to over zealous application of lube at the factory.

If we'd stripped the bolt we might have discovered the issue but the rifle was too new and the agents just a few minutes down the road so it went back for them to sort.

We've noticed this pistol sometimes not firing but I thought maybe it was user error... But last time it definitely didn't fire a round and today this problem.... I guess it could have been a bad primer but the two with problem had very light strikes and the others were fine... The gun has at least a thousand rounds through it both factory and reloads.... Mostly reloads all loaded exactly the same as these IE same charge etc.... I use win231 in it and it's definitely not ideal because it's position sensitive with the .38...loaded down to 4.5 gr and the max is 4.8 with a min of 3.8.... loading them like lead using Berry's bullets... There could be a build up of gunk , we keep the guns clean as in if we shoot them there cleaned... But the Ruger LCR doesn't have a hammer so maybe it needs to be stripped and cleaned , we will let the factory see what's up... We definitely don't oil the firing pin in anything but hey who knows....

Edit... Yes we have fired some factory when it was new strictly for the brass etc but the problem seems to be getting worse as the guns gotten older and to me there's not enough rounds through it to be worn out , a 1000 or so , maybe more....

They dont make the cheaper carry guns to shoot that many rounds in my opinion. Everything is a light alloy and 1000rds is astronomical on an lcr from what ive seen. If you take one apart youll see all kinds of smashed and beat up alloy surfaces at a few hundred rounds. Some of the parts are probably dragging on a worn thru the anodizing spot.

Ok , thanks dusty I just did the 10,000 round service on my Glock I never thought 1000 to be alot but i dont doubt it. She wants a Glock 9mm so I will take her to the gun store... This little gun served it's purpose for her , time to move on...
