primer pocket cutter depth for small rifle

I bought a new RCBS small rifle primer pocket uniformer. Fortuately, I measured the depth setting as it looked too deep! It measured .143. What should I set it at to properly uniform my pockets? Thanks, Tom

The key word is 'uniform' pockets. Take it a tiny bit at a time. All you need to do is cut any high point down to the lowest point in the pocket making the pocket seat square to the primer. You need not cut anymore than that. If you're super anal on each primer being the same depth you could measure and cut them all equal depth, but how much all that extra work is worth is up to debate.

Small Rifle Primer depth via saami is .117" to .123" from face to case head to flash hole. If your at .143" now, your way too deep already!

I have the Sinclair tool which measures at .120". It works fine for Winchester cases (223) but the Remington cases (223) are formed deeper and the tool barely removes any material.

I perform the uniforming as part of my standard case prep but quite honestly I cannot detect any difference in group size from pockets uniformed vs those not uniformed.
