Primer Issues

Guys I have a problem. I'm trying to start load development on my 22BR and having trouble with the primers.

The problem is when I prime the cases, the primer is seated too deep. I loaded about 50 pcs. and over half of them will not fire. I'm at a loss as I have not experienced this problem with any other cartridge that I load for.

The components that I'm using:

Lapua 6BR brass
Rem 7 1/2 primers
RCBS Hand Priming Tool w/ small rifle shaft using my .243 shell holder.

**I have not done anything to the primer pockets**

I have about 600 pcs. more of the brass and don't want to load anymore until I solve this problem.

Let me know what you guys think may be the problem.

K&M makes a hand primer tool in which you can set the depth to which you want to seat your primers. My other hand primer is the RCBS Hand primer that works on most priming needs but isn't as versatile as the K&M. I've used both with great success but just don't use the RCBS when primer seating becomes an issue. Let me clarify that it's not that the RCBS hand primer doesn't seat the primers. It's that I've found I can better control primer performance by seating primers to a specific depth rather than seating the primers (on my 6mmbr) all the way against the primer hole wall. The RCBS hand primer doesn't allow for such control.

Sound like you may have firing pin issues. Weak spring or not long enough. We have no idea what action . Larry

Remington 40X action.
Do what Boyd Allen said first. If the cases are with in .005 Take the bolt and de cock it see how far the Firing pen is forward if the hea if that is ok. Then replace the spring or the Firing pen and spring I had a 40x I had the same problem. Larry

YEAH..THIS IS NOT A PRIMER ISSUE..
this is a case clearance problem (not head space)
a firing pin issue, maybe spring

you did nothing to the brass..is it new brass ? what brass maker ?
what primer ?
what is the distance from the case head to the top of the primer ??

DO NOT SEAT THE PRIMERS TO A GIVEN NUMBER...
they go to the bottom of the pocket, and then a small crush....
