What if anything do you use to measure primer depth,( other then the end of a caliper)?

I really don't. I have always used a hand priming tool and seat a primer till I feel it bottom out. I do keep all my cases the same, especially bottle neck rifle. If I start seating and primers feel loose I might measure pocket ID and primer OD but that is about it. I will prime the first few and hold a business card or straight edge flush against the case head and like to see about 0.003" or more but when I seat till I get that feel of bottomed out I am good with that.

I got all hung up on measuring years ago. I found out its a by feel thing. I use Ron Blains procedure almost word for word.

I use a K&M adjustable primer pocket uniforming tool, set to cut the bottom of the primer pocket .003" deeper than my primers measure. I used the end of a caliper to set the depth of the cutter. Then press the primers in with a 21st Century seating tool. It has a very good feel for when you hit bottom and you can then adjust the tool to stop pressing at your desired depth.
