PRIMER CHOICE 223 VARMINT LOADS

Local shop has regular CCI SRP and CCI 41 SRP today in stock--I like the idea of thicker cup on the 41's --will the 41's work well on other 223 long range loads? Which one would you choose for bolt guns--one varmint and one fast twist long range paper puncher Thanks guys

My Thompson contender has problems getting the number 41s to fire. I had the hammer spring replaced to a lighter one.

They work fantastic in my AR.

If your guns have strong hammer springs or firing pin springs you should be fine with the number 41s.

But the standard CCIs will work also just as well maybe even better

are you shooting in a mil drill or mil practice,,,////no..then stay away from mil primers

For what it’s worth I had horrible es with cci450s and varget today in my 223. Can’t blame it all on that combo so don’t crucify me. I wish I could find a different primer locally to try. 450s seem to be everywhere

You should have no issues with the 41's. I mainly use them in AR's and keep the rem 7 1/2 for the bolt rifles. I would try them in my bolt rifles if im out of the Remingtons.

just to be clear. i have shot and built ars for close to 30 years.
i tried 41's they suck period
i use std win sr, tula sr/223 and mag, with fed 205s//all with no issues.
again if you have an issue with a std primer, it is not the primer, it is the gun or the loader

Guys I never mentioned any problems in original post--just that I had a choice yesterday--and I knew that they had thick cups--hotter loads do tend to crater the softer thinner cups especially on Savage with big firing pin hole--
I just wondered would they shoot and group as accurate as the std primers thats really all I was interested in--as I had never used them
Thanks

same answer
fix the problem
poor seating
poor spring
poor sizing
it aint the primer
Standard reply and not just here.
I have a Savage Model11 Shooting precision target loads.. There is nothing wrong with the gun and nothing wrong with the loads, In this case it IS the Primers. I have shot over 1k 450 primers thru this gun with never a problem until this brick of 450 just recently purchased. I am 1/2 way thru thus brick and have already had over 2 doz FTF. So you can repeat you mantra all day long. BTW I also shoot Remington 7 1/2 in this with not a single failure and the 400 primers show signs of creator.

..most likely your old firing pin spring..or some other loading issue.
i have shot tons of 450s with no issues. in three different rifles. two different cartridges.
I have had them misfire also lately

I had the same. Swapped the firing pin spring triple checked my sizing, triple checked my primer seating. It does seem to happen on savage rifles which is what I shoot a lot of
