Prepping new Lapua brass

6mmbr brass and Redding type S fl die. Initial tests show I need a .266 bushing for about .0015 neck tension. Should I use the expander button that came with the die or use a Sinclair expander first and then fl size without the expander button and with the bushing?

I don't know about 6BR, but in .308 the only thing I do to virgin Lapua brass is to run a neck turning mandrel through the mouth to round it out. Then I load it and shoot it. After the first firing, I resize it with a Redding S FL die adjusted to bump the shoulder back .001 to .002.

The neck turning mandrel from Sinclair is .002 under caliber, which is perfect for my needs.

that's what I though. I should have included that as one of my choices. I assume, after the first firing, remove the expander button?

The expander button is not in any of my bushing dies.

Either use expanding mandrel or expander button, not both.

If you have a mandrel, use that, then load and seat bullet (like Bayou Shooter suggested).


Remove expander ball from die and use undersized one with bushing after first firing.
