Prepping my RPR to shoot some matches.....

Nice setup, Terry! I shoot a RPR myself in 6.5x47 Lapua. I thought your bag rider work was very interesting as I have dealt with bag riders on the RPR myself. Your rear setup was very clever. I am using a Magpul Gen III PRS stock and but still not great in the bags. I find that using the bag riders, the whole rig sits too high to for me to shoot comfortably. I notice you have a higher rear bag than I do and that may help me but I found shimming the rear bag using spacers under the bag is not a stable setup. Good luck with your shooting.

Thanks! Good to hear about another RPR. How do you like the 6.4x47L?

I am a huge fan of the 6.5x47L. I have built 2 of them. Besides the RPR, I have a custom rifle built on a Savage Precision Target action. The
Savage has a Shilen barrel and the RPR has a Criterion barrel. Both chambers were cut with the same reamer that I ordered from PTG to my specs. Both have shot groups in the ones, twos and threes and will always shoot 1/2 MOA or better. The 6.5 Lapua is an outstanding cartridge to load for as well

Outstanding set of front and rear bag-riders. Other RPR and tubegun shooters should take note!

Thanks for sharing.

I decided that I'd attempt to make a set of bag riders. I have some HDPE 1" material and a pretty well equipped shop. I'd much rather make something vs buying it if at all possible. For the rear bag rider I disassembled my Accu-Shot monopod and used only the base. 4" 5/16x24 bolt will attach the rider to the monopod base.

A trip through the router table to round over the edges and some finish sanding completes the rear.

The front is super simple. Just a 2 1/4"x4 1/2"x1" HDPE with all the edges rounded over. I countersunk holes for a couple of 1" stainless screws for M-Lok fasteners to attach it to the rail. Kinda looks like bar of soap. lol...

Thanks for the info. 6.5L looks like a great round.

Thanks! Glad that I can contribute something worthwhile. Planning to tweak both ends in the next few days. 3" bag will be here Monday. I'll make a rider for that with improvements that have been suggested and see how it goes. I'll post the result.

Got the 3" bag for the BE so I fabbed up a new front rider incorporating the suggestions that I got after the original post. I milled the top of the rider to fit the Seekins rail and mirrored that mill work on the bottom to leave just the outside contact surfaces.

Off to the local 1000 yard range to give all the new stuff a try today!

I will ask what shouldn't be asked. 'How much $$ are you approximately into in this endeavor so far?? It's very impressive no matter what the $$ is . Love the ingenuity.
