Preliminary LabRadar Testing

Labradar in the HOUSE!

I'll do my best to get some testing in this weekend and compare it to my Magnetospeed V3. Also anxious to see how it does with my bow...

I played with settings last night and was impressed with how simple the menu was and how simple too.

Seems good bit was put into packaging and the print that was included. I'm ready to test it out Sunday

I got an email that said I wasn't on the list for this shipment. Have to wait until January. thats OK, I'd rather them work out the bugs before I take delivery. I prefer to not have the first rev of anything. The previous pics are exactly what I ordered.....Labrador, stand and carry case. Looks cool.

How did the testing go?

Here is an email I received on Oct 28th, 2015.

LabRadar shipped us 40 units yesterday which will be going to customers who placed their pre-order just before yours. LabRadar says they will be shipping us another 40 units in "a couple weeks". Your pre-order will be included in that next shipment in a couple weeks.

I will email you when I receive the notification from LabRadar showing that the next 40 units have shipped to us. At that time I will send you a copy of your order and ask you to confirm it. If you have not yet paid for your order I will give you instructions at that time to complete the payment.

Gotta say this is my favorite reloading tool of all time.

Tracked everything perfectly...even suppressed 223 (73 gr).

Biggest gripe is that it EATS batteries...definitely needs to pickup a USB battery pack.

Hi Brian
This unit is pretty intriguing, but before I give up my magnetospeed...

One issue I have is that the unit is off to the side, and as you observed, will only measure a component of MV. You wrote "the highest quality track data appears to be up close, but ...the angle between the radar and your LOS is significant, so you're only getting a component of velocity not total velocity."

I noticed that in your comparisons labradar consistently measures a few fps slower than the Oehler, which in this context makes sense. What is the approximate angle, and have you calculated the cosign error and checked whether this could be the reason? Just 4 degrees would make about 7 fps difference on 3000 fps.

How far into the bullet flight before the bullet intercepts the radar cone? it's got to be a foot or more. Is the MV interpolated back to the muzzle? this could also account for slower MV

The labradar should be able to take the raw track data, calculate the angle off and intercept distance, and compensate accordingly. I wonder if it does...

As to rain, the online manual indicates it's operating at 24 GHz. This is the same as a HAM radio band, and their data shows that is a water absorption band. However, its only .5 db/km, so its no factor over these much short distances...

It would be useful to have a labradar engineer comment...
